Woman gets 18 months over cocaine, ganja charges

uann Bynoe was yesterday sentenced to serve an 18-month prison term after she pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges.

Bynoe, a domestic worker, was sentenced at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.

She had made her first court appearance on Monday, when she denied charges that she had in her possession 150 grammes of cannabis and eight grammes of cocaine, all for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, who had initially prosecuted the case, told the court that on May 6, while ranks were on patrol at Alexander Street, Bourda, they carried out a search on the defendant, discovering the illegal drugs in her shoulder bag.

In addition to the fine, Bynoe was also fined $30,000.
