Man put on $25,000 bail over wife assault

A man who allegedly assaulted his wife was yesterday placed on $25,000 bail after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation is that on September 28 at Springview Avenue, Ruimveldt, defendant Lloyd Scott unlawfully assaulted his wife Stacy Scott.

The man pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

In presenting the facts, Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court that the two parties have been married for the past 11 years.

He said that on the day in question at around 9:45 hrs, the defendant returned home and heard the VC talking about a job that her father had got for her.

Harvey added that an argument ensued between the two, which later resulted in a fight. He said that the matter was subsequently reported and a medical  certificate was obtained.

After listening to the facts, the magistrate told the accused that he will be placed on bail and on a bond to keep the peace pending the outcome of the matter.

He was also informed that he has to state to the court another place where he can stay in order to prevent any further conflict between the couple.

An alternative address was given by the defendant’s friend.

The matter was adjourned until October 3 and the matter was transferred to Court Six.
