Guard accused of breaking into bond

A 38-year-old security guard yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face the charge of break and enter and larceny after he was accused of breaking into a bond he was assigned to guard at a worksite.

Ravi Bhagwadin of Ruimveldt pleaded not guilty to the charge before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry who put him on $80,000 bail.
The court was told that on October 25 at Brickdam, Bhagwadin, a security guard attached to Khan’s Security Service, reported for duty at a construction site at the said location and was posted to watch a zinc bond. The bond had been secured by the foreman, who discovered that the padlock had been lashed off and a quantity of building materials missing when he reported for work the following day;  the defendant was nowhere around.

The value of the missing articles amounted to $300,000.

The defendant told the courts he was in custody since Tuesday and claimed he was beaten by the police.

Bhagwadin will make his next court appearance on November 25.
