Jamaica trounces Barbados by 9 wickets

Jamaica continued their dominant showing in the West Indies Cricket Board three-day under-19 tournament when they defeated Barbados by nine wickets at the Enmore Community Centre ground yesterday. In a game of changing fortunes Jamaica elected to field after winning the toss and bowled out their Bajan counterparts for 177 off 95.4 overs. Shai Hope stood tall for Barbados with an unbeaten 84 while Donovan Nelson continued with his good bowling form when he picked up four wickets for 38 runs off 24 overs.

However, Barbados pushed the Jamaicans on the back foot in the first innings when they bowled them out for six runs less than their first innings total off 89.4 overs. John Campbell, Raghni Francis and Nelson contributed to the team total with scores of 29, 27 and 26 respectively while Kraigg Brathwaite mirrored Nelson in the bowling department as he picked up four wickets for 33 runs off 23 overs.

Opening the second innings with a six-run lead, the reggae boys seized full control of the match on the final day when they ripped through the Bajan batting line up with positive bowling and attacking field positions that ended Barbados’ second innings on 63 all out off 51.2 overs.

With a target of 70 for victory, Jamaica played a controlled innings to win the game in 22.1 overs as they chalked up 72 for 1. Campbell played somewhat of an attacking innings as he struck 2 fours and 3 sixes on his way to an unbeaten 45 while Ramon Senior finished on 9 not out.

Brian Gayle was the only batsman to go – via a run out – as the Bajan bowlers toiled unsuccessfully to pick up wickets.
