GFSCA Masters Cup tourney…Regal Masters, Cotton Tree Wild Oats crowned champions

The premiere Guyana Cup Three-Day Twenty20 softball tournament ended with the Regal Masters and Cotton Tree Wild Oats winning their respective categories in Sunday night’s game at the Everest Cricket Club.

The games started on October 28 with 16 teams: eight local and the other eight from North America/Canada which participated in an Open and Over 40 sections, divided into two groups of four.

Regal Masters defeated Savage Masters by 51 runs in the over-40 final. Batting first, the victors scored 176/7 in their allotted 20 overs, with Jaga Bhoj (35), Mahendra Hardyn (33) and Troy Kippins (32 not-out) being the main scorers.

Bowling from Savage Masters saw Vivakanand Ramsaywak and Anil Rambarran claiming figures of 2-32 and 3-26 respectively. Savage Masters fell short scoring 125/6 in 20 overs, with Manjor Malone playing a lone hand with an innings of 64.

Over in the open final, the Essequibo Club Cotton Tree Wild Oats (CTWO) overcame Georgetown’s Regal XI by seven-wickets. Taking first strike Regal XI reached 132/8 in 20 overs with Richard Latif being the main scorer with 35. Navindra Madholall had the best bowling for CTWO with 3-21 from his four over. CTWO, in pursuit, got to their target with three overs to spare scoring 133/3; with Patrick Rooplall (59) and Fazeer Khan (36) leading the charge.

Three exhibition ladies matches were also contested, where Mike’s Wellwoman and Rose Hall Metro’s Trophy Stall Angels won the $50,000 cash prize.

The prize for the Open and Masters Twenty20 Cup were US$3000 and US$2000 respectively along with trophies from Trophy Stall. In both finals, Patrick Rooplall and Anil Rambarran were given the Man-of-the-Match trophy compliments of Wellman and a 14k gold bracelet from Steve’s Jewellery.
