Victoria man stabbed, robbed of gold chains – court hears

A 21-year-old Victoria man was yesterday remanded when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer the charge of armed robbery.

The court heard that on December 13 while being armed with a knife Kurt Kingston, of Lot 16 Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, allegedly robbed William Hunte of two gold chains valued $240,000.

The prosecutor said the defendant is known to the virtual complainant (VC) and that on the day in question the VC heard a knocking on his window and upon investigating he was confronted by the defendant who was armed with a knife.

The VC had been wearing the said items at the time and Kingston allegedly pushed him down, jumped through the window into the house, stabbed him several times in his back, took the items and escaped. The VC was then hospitalized and a report was made which led to Kingston’s arrest.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the VC is still in the hospital and if granted bail the defendant may tamper with him.

Kingston was ordered to appear in the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court on January 18.
