We need an appropriate governance framework so all can meaningfully participate in crafting a common vision

Dear Editor,

I refer to two recent articles in Stabroek News: ‘Angola denies US$32 billion missing in state funds’ (January 10) and ‘Where will oil take us?‘ (January 13).
While many of us welcome the prospect of finding oil and the likely benefits that would accrue for Guyana as a whole, we are also mindful of the associated negative impact that could result.

Therefore, we hope that the relevant authorities are planning ahead with a view to ensuring the appropriate governance framework is put in place to make space for all of us to meaningfully participate in crafting and implementing a common vision and strategy to deliver the quality of life we can all be proud of.

Yours faithfully,
David Yhann
