A Diamond Housing Scheme businessman and his family were last night attacked and robbed by five men sometime after 9 pm.
While reports are sketchy, this newspaper understands that the five intruders, some of whom carried guns, attacked the businessman and his wife at their 17th Street, Diamond Housing Scheme home where the family operates a wholesale business establishment as well as a SOL cooking gas outlet.
The couple was physically assaulted and sustained injuries about their bodies, including cuts to their faces, sources at the Diamond hospital told Stabroek News last night. They were later discharged from that hospital, an official at the hospital noted.
Following the robbery, the men escaped with an undisclosed quantity of cash and the matter was subsequently reported to the Diamond Police Station.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
