Chinese teaches attend football referees course

Four teachers from China currently attached to the Allied Arts Unit of the Ministry of Education attended the Scotia Bank /Pepsi Schools Referees Course being held at the Ministry of Education Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue.

The course has been organized as part of the academy with students being trained as referees to officials in the forthcoming tournament.

Course Coordinator Lawrence “Sparrow” Griffith said  that since the programme started there have been visits by several prominent sports personalities and the visit by the Chinese teachers was very heartening.

Griffith is being assisted by FIFA Referees Instructor Colin “BL” Aaron and United States-based Instructor and Assessor Charles Daniels who is home on holiday.

Griffith said Daniels who migrated to the United States 15 years ago has continued his support of referees’ development locally.

The tournament Phase of the Scotia Bank/Pepsi Schools Football Academy will kick off on March 3 with 12 schools competing in male and female categories.

The four Chinese teachers attached to the Allied Arts Unit of the Ministry of Education with some of the participants and trainers of the Referees Course.

The Academy now in its second year was officially launched earlier this week.
