Two in custody over death of Crabwood Creek farmhand

Two men have been taken into custody after they confessed to beating Ajai Mohabir, 32, a farmhand of Crabwood Creek (CWC), Corentyne to death.

Mohabir whose decomposed body was found on Sunday morning was laid to rest on Tuesday and relatives are calling on the police to conduct a full investigation so his death would not go unpunished.

A father of four, Mohabir stayed with persons he worked for after he was separated from his wife.

His sister, Indranie Mohabir told this newspaper that he also stayed at her house at Williamsburg as well as with another brother for a while.

Two months ago he insisted on returning to CWC just to be close to his children. The woman said she got a message on Sunday morning that he had drowned.

When she and other relatives got to the area the body had already been taken to the Skeldon Hospital mortuary. Officers from the Springlands Police Station accompanied them to the mortuary to identify the body.

She said that because of the decomposing state it was very difficult to identify the body.

At first they told the police to check for the gold teeth in his mouth only to discover that the teeth were missing.

They then remembered that he had a tattoo on his hand and that helped them to confirm his identity.

Indranie lamented that although her brother liked to consume alcohol he never interfered with anyone and that his attackers did not have to kill him. Worst of all, she said, “they din have to throw he body overboard fuh it spoil.”

She said too, “It so hard to lose him; meh can’t catch meself yet to know that he dead… I don’t know what they kill him for. If they deh just give him two lash and all was something…”
