Man in fatal Martyrs Ville stabbing to face charges

The 49-year-old suspect who fatally stabbed 23-year-old Shivram Mohabir on Monday evening, is to be charged today.

On Monday evening Mohabir was murdered at 5th Street, Martyrs Ville, East Coast Demerara by his fiancé’s uncle.

Police say enquiries revealed that Mohabir and the suspect had an ongoing problem. Last Saturday the suspect made a report at the Beterverwagting Police Station against Mohabir.

On Monday evening, Mohabir was at his fiancée’s residence when the suspect visited to check on his family and learnt that the suspect was there. The suspect rushed up to Mohabir and a scuffle ensued.

During the altercation, the suspect armed himself with a knife and stabbed Mohabir in the chest. He then escaped. Mohabir was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted. A report was also made to the Police.

At around 20.15 hours on Monday, the doctor updated relatives that Mohabir had a stab wound to the left side of his chest and his condition was deemed critical.

 At about 9.55 pm on Monday, Mohabir succumbed to his injuries. 

Meanwhile, on Monday night, police contacted the suspect at his home in Mon Repos and escorted him to the Beterverwagting Police Station, where he was placed into custody.
