East Coast mason remanded over break-in at Port Kaituma boutique

A 21-year-old mason from Ogle was remanded to prison after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday to answer a charge of break and enter and larceny at a Port Kaituma boutique.

Jermaine Lewis of Ogle Line Top, East Coast Demerara, was not required to plead to the charge which was read to him by Magistrate Alan Wilson.

It is alleged that between January 25 and 26 at Oronoque, Port Kaituma, the defendant broke and entered the boutique of Maria Mannie and stole seven caps, one hammock, 38 jerseys, six ladies jeans and one Premium generator, all valued a total of $235,000.

Bail was refused after the prosecution argued that the accused lives very far from where the incident occurred and he is not likely to attend court if he is released. The accused was ordered to appear at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court on May 2.
