Minibus conductor accused in chain snatching remanded

Magistrate Alan Wilson remanded a minibus conductor to prison after he was accused of snatching a woman’s gold chain.

Rooplall Singh of Timehri Red Ground, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on March 9 at Georgetown, the accused snatched one gold chain valued $30,000 from the person of Sunita Pearson.

The defendant, however, denied the claim. He told the court that he did not steal the chain but he was conducting a bus when he was arrested and charged with committing the offence.

Bail was refused by Magistrate Wilson who cited the seriousness of the offence and told the accused to return to Court Ten on March 19 at which time he can express his concerns.
