At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry sentenced an office assistant to seven days imprisonment when he appeared before her for unlawfully assaulting his reputed wife.
Derwin Cox, 27, an office assistant pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawfully assaulting his reputed wife, Devika Soomaru.
On Monday the Virtual Complainant (VC) went to meet a friend at Alexander Street, Kitty and the defendant also went to the same location and confronted her about her whereabouts. An argument ensued and Cox then dealt the woman a slap to the left side of her face.
The matter was reported and Cox was later arrested and charged.
