Gold bangle larceny accused on $65,000 bail

Chris Nurse appeared yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a larceny from the person charge before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton who placed him on $65,000 bail.

It is alleged that on March 22 at Water Street, Georgetown, twenty-three-year-old Nurse stole from the person of Rajmattie Rangulah one gold bangle worth $80,000.

He was not allowed to plead but asked if he could say a few words and using the opportunity he stated that he was  being victimized by a police sergeant who he named in court as Gravesandy.

He claimed that he has been before the court before and was placed on bail but since then he went into the interior and every time the officer sees him he would harass him in one way or the other. In this case he arrested him for no reason. This was said without prejudice.

Nurse made an application for bail but prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected citing the seriousness of the offence. However the man was granted bail by the magistrate and he has to appear in court again on May 18.
