The four men accused of terrorizing the Cummings Lodge community yesterday made their second appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alex Moore and were placed on $100,000 bail each.
Orlando Samuels, 22 years; Ricardo April, 22 years; Quincy Bentick, 22 years; and Jamal Munroe, 17 years were all arrested and charged for a number of robberies committed in the area. Samuels and April were jointly charged with robbery under arms, committed on Vivian Rookhum and Frederick Cheong. Samuels and Munroe were jointly charged with robbery under arms committed on Mohamed Khan, Samuels was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without licence and robbery under arms committed on Savitri Bhola. Bentick and April were charged with robbery with violence committed on Akbar Ali and Amanda Bovell.
Attorney at Law Gwendolyn Bristol represented Munroe and made an application for reasonable bail. In her application she said that her client is an orphan and resides with his grandmother in New Amsterdam, Berbice who will ensure he attends every court session.
The Magistrate then questioned the control the grandmother would have over him since he was charged for wandering when he was 14 years old. However the grandmother through the attorney assured the Magistrate that she will exercise total control over him, thus he was placed on bail.
The prosecution said that they were not ready to go ahead with the matter since investigations are still ongoing, thus they requested for a three weeks adjournment date and had no objections for the other accused to be granted bail.
They were all placed on bail and will return to court on May 4.
