Riverstown man charged with raping 13-year-old

A man who is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl appeared before the Suddie Magistrate’s Court last month but the child’s family is dissatisfied that he was not also charged with abduction and attempting to flee the country with a minor.

Kishore ‘Blackboy’ Narine, of Riverstown, Essequibo Coast, is expected to make his second court appearance on May 25. The matter could not commence on the first occasion for reasons this newspaper was unable to verify.

A relative of the child yesterday told Stabroek News that he is anxious to have the matter called and have the perpetrator brought to justice.

“We haven’t gotten to hear anything from either parties, they put off the case. We want to see something come out of this case,” he noted.

The man also pointed out that he is not pleased with how the matter is being handled, since it is believed that Narine should have been charged with other offences.

The relative also noted that during the Easter weekend, the child was visited by an overseas-based relative of the accused who was asked not to return since the matter is before the court.

“She came and brought a big bag of things for the girl but we told her we would have to refuse it. She explained that when the girl was with the man, she used to speak with her on the phone but I told her she is not with the man anymore, she is with her family. The woman was sad and even almost cried. She said she got close to her on the phone,” the relative related.

He noted that a welfare officer attached to the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs has since visited the child’s home and has offered counselling services which is appreciated by the family.

“The child feels comfortable talking with the welfare officer and she has helped her to recover”, he added.
