Some ‘gems’

Dear Editor,

Fair is foul, and foul is fair:

through the fog and filthy air.

The above quotation from Macbeth, is a fitting introduction to my ‘gems‘ (according to a reader). So here we go:

a. Death of a child: The death of a child, whether through illness or a tragedy, is most unbearable. What is worse, however, is when one decides to link the tragedy to satanic influences. The belief in Jesus Christ (if one does believe), will I am certain, counter the persuasion that the signs in the area of the tragedy, were connected to the child’s death,

b. Proof reader: The undermentioned inaccuracies in the Guyana Times of May 2, page 24, are food for thought:

(1)  Stafanie Taylor, who took 2-19, with his quick off break.

(2)  Daley continued her good with some powerful shots.

(3)  Who hit a big six out the ground.

c. The belief of the supporters of the political opposition that deals should not be made with the PPP/C government, unless the ‘stick method’ is used, or a mandate has been given to do so.  The Brigadier (rtd), has to quickly realize that he is mounted on a tiger, and failure to do the tiger’s bidding would result in him being mauled. Remember H Parris.

d.  Hydroelectricity: Once more the hammer falls on a major hydroelectric project. Remember the Upper Mazaruni Project? The Venezuelans objected, on the grounds that that project was to be constructed in an area of controversy. The World Bank refused to support the said project. Decades later, another attempt, has been ‘dissed by ah we own.‘

e.   Ridiculous statement: The alleged statement by the head of the GPSU, that the projects affected as a result of the recent Budget cuts were of no consequence, because many persons would have died before their completion and therefore they would not have benefitted, is unacceptable. Is the GPSU gentleman ‘for real’? Are there any more like him?

f. Hypocrisy:  The government mentions an increase in the electricity tariffs for Linden; there is a big hue and cry; the opposition has a field day. The minibus union decides to impose a fare increase on commuters – everyone is quiet.

g. The bridge: The lives of Guyanese motorists and pedestrians are being held to ransom, whilst the “boys” discuss who is responsible for the repairs to the Sussex Street/Cemetery Road Bridge.

Yours faithfully,
CS Vaughn
