Kitty man accused of sexual offence against seven-year-old girl

A Garnett Street man was on Thursday granted bail in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after being accused of a sexual offence against a girl, threatening language, and provoking the peace.

Clinton Vandercruz, 35, who appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton allegedly committed the threatening language and provoking the peace offences on May 2 against a woman.

At the beginning of the proceedings the defendant denied the threatening language and provoking the peace charges when they were read.

Vandercruz was then asked if he wished to make an application for bail. He replied in the affirmative and the prosecution did  not object.

Police Prosecutor Tracymay Gittens then asked for both parties to give an undertaking  to have nothing to do with each other pending the outcome of the proceedings. The magistrate gave her approval and the parties agreed.

Magistrate Octave-Hamilton then placed Vandercruz on $15,000 bail for both of the offences.

Shortly after, the magistrate asked that the court be cleared so that she could deal with the sexual offence matter. It was alleged that Vandercruz committed the offence on a seven-year-old.

Stabroek News understands that the accused was granted an additional $120,000 bail on that charge and he has to return to court on May 28.
