Akwero council to decide fate of drunk and disorderly Toshao

The village council of Akwero in the Moruca sub-region will soon make a decision on the fate of the Toshao, who, on Thursday and while drunk, verbally and physically abused two women in the community, one of whom is a regional official.
Reports are that Richard Cornelius, who was elected Toshao following village council elections last month, abused the two residents while intoxicated.

According to a member of the council, on Thursday afternoon the Toshao was embroiled in an argument with his neighbour and he subsequently pushed the woman who fell to the ground. He said soon after, the woman reported the matter to the police at the Akwero Police Station.

Some time later, the Toshao encountered Assistant Regional Executive Officer (AREO) of the Moruca Sub-Region, Cassandra Rodrigues, and verbally abused her during an argument. The man threatened the woman during the ruckus, using a series of expletives, a Moruca resident told Stabroek News yesterday.

She said the police subsequently arrested him and he spent Thursday night in the lock-ups. He was released on station bail yesterday.

According to the councilor, the village council convened an emergency meeting yesterday during which it considered reports on the conduct of the Toshao on Thursday.

He said that within the next few days a decision will be made as regards his future as a member of the council.
