Two held over attack on cop at Monkey Mountain

The police have arrested two of the persons who attacked the constable who was shot numerous times with arrows, chopped in the head and beaten at Monkey Mountain, Region Eight  On Thursday.

Kevin George, 20, of 241 Freeman Street, East La Penitence, along with another police constable attached to the Monkey Mountain Police Outpost, had arrested four men in connection with the discovery of a gun and suspected cannabis.

This newspaper understands that it was while they were taking the suspects back to the Monkey Mountain Outpost via the Echilebar River that the boat capsized, and arrows were aimed into the river, striking George several times about his body.

His colleague escaped to the bank opposite the villagers who were shooting at them while George swam to their shores. There, he was chopped and beaten. It is believed that the villagers were known to the men who were arrested.

The injured man’s father, Henry George, yesterday told this newspaper that the swelling of his son’s body had reduced.

“Everything is okay now, the swelling gone down and he is talking and doing better. They are just keeping him to monitor his condition now,” he explained. He further stated that the arrow was removed from his back.
