Second witness testifies in Kaneville murder trial

Nazeema Persaud, the granddaughter of murdered Kaneville businessman Barbot Paul, yesterday took the stand at the trial of the man accused of murdering him.

Persaud’s testimony lasted for over two hours when the trial of Dwight Da Silva continued before Justice Roxane George at the High Court.

She is the second witness in the trial.

She was then cross-examined by the defence. During cross examination, Persaud’s testimony revealed some inconsistencies as to what was recorded previously in her statement to the police.

She will continue her evidence in the matter today, when the trial continues.

Da Silva is on trial for murdering Paul, described as an outspoken fighter against crime, who was shot dead at Kaneville by a gunman who wanted his firearm in 2006.
