West Dem businessman shot in $2.5M Agricola robbery

Two gunmen, including one dressed like a policeman, yesterday shot and wounded a West Demerara businessman on the Agricola Public Road before escaping with the $2.5M he had in his possession.

Up to press time last evening, police were still trying to find the the bandits, who executed their plan when the traffic in the area was moving at snail’s pace.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, when contacted, told this newspaper that he had heard of the incident but did not have any details.

The businessman, Trevor Tankoon, said to be a fuel dealer, received medical attention for a gunshot wound he sustained to his hand at a private city hospital. When this newspaper spoke with him, he said that the incident had left him in shock.

Tankoon explained that around 11 am he was heading “up” the East Bank to a bank to conduct business when the two bandits pounced on him. was stuck in traffic when two men on ‘dirt bikes,’ one of whom was dressed like a TSU policeman, rode up to his vehicle and discharge two  rounds. One of the bullets struck his hand while the other shattered the vehicle’s windscreen.

The bandits later grabbed the money and made good their escape. The people in the area who were approached by this newspaper were reluctant to speak.
