Lands and Surveys employees honoured for service

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds extended felicitations to employees at the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission for their contribution to development and urged them to continue their dedicated service to the entity, in his address at a ceremony held on Monday to recognise its 11th anniversary.

Hinds also advised staff to rise above the challenges of the job and issues of conflict and integrity and to ensure that they keep abreast of the latest technology skills, a Government Information Agency press release said.

Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Robert Persaud also gave an address during which he reiterated the Commission’s critical role to national development. Persaud noted that the Commission’s role in managing, planning and ensuring the effective utilisation of the country’s land resources greatly impacts other agencies and areas of development. He also applauded the substantial progress that it has made over the years, though he also noted the need for capacity building.

Special prizes and certificates were also bestowed on employees for their punctuality and long service.  Andre Mohamed was named Employee of the Year while Florence Bart was honoured for 32 years of service. Jennifer Loncke and Carlotta Major received special prizes for being punctual and special awards were also presented to Tedwin Roach, David Cole, Rayburn Holder and others.
