Guyana is continually overlooked to host international cricket

Dear Editor,
I cannot understand why Guyana is continually being overlooked to host international cricket matches here in the Caribbean. Granted, there wasn’t much of a crowd turnout in the last Test match that Guyana hosted against Pakistan (as was the case in other countries in the Caribbean for the entire Pakistan tour), but the last 3 ODIs that Guyana hosted were sold out.  Guyana has put a lot of money into cricket, despite being a poor country. When the 2020 cricket World Cup was played in the Caribbean in 2010 some countries could not afford to host matches, citing the global financial crisis. Guyana, however, was up to the task.  Jamaica was also another country being sidelined until the Jamaican PM spoke out concerning the issue which resulted in Jamaica hosting a match in the upcoming New Zealand tour. It is time that the Guyanese cricketing authorities take a page out of the Jamaican PM’s book and make representation for Guyana. I am sure all cricket fans in Guyana feel the same way.

Yours faithfully,
