Fire wrecks Bartica boat

A boat caught afire yesterday morning after its engine exploded when fuel was spilt on it, resulting in the captain sustaining minor injuries.

The ‘Good Will’ passenger boat, owned by Anthony Spencer, was damaged beyond repair after an explosion at the Sir’s Service Station, First Street, Bartica while collecting fuel. Its captain, Bobby Camron was burnt to the legs but was treated at the Bartica Hospital and sent away.

Information reaching this newspaper is that sometime between 9-10am, Camron and a sailor, went to purchase three drums of fuel at the Service Station.

While there, the sailor was said to have allowed the fuel to spill without observing it and it eventually made contact with the Yamaha engine.

The sailor reportedly jumped overboard, escaping any injury, while Camron remained and reportedly shoved the engine into the river. “The boat completely write off,” a source said.
