Seven-a-side football tourney to be rescheduled due to bad weather

The Inter-Ministries/Corporation seven-a-side football tournament which was scheduled to have its semi-finals and finals played last Sunday at the Banks DIH Thirst Park Ground has to be rescheduled  due to inclement weather.

Stabroek Sport spoke with the coordinator of the tournament, Mark Young via telephone recently, and he stated that he was still awaiting confirmation from representatives of Banks DIH on whether the semi-finals and finals will be played at the same venue providing good weather prevails or they will be relocated to the Guyana Football Club (GFC) Ground, Bourda.

“We will be meeting sometime in the week to discuss the venue of the games and hopefully we will be able to make a decision by tomorrow (today) since the tournament has been going on for more than six weeks,” Young said.

It was noted that at the GFC venue games will be allowed to go on even if there are scattered showers due since  the ground there  dries faster.

When Young was contacted yesterday he stated that he did not meet with officials from Banks concerning the issue but promised to keep Stabroek Sport updated.

He later noted that providing it does not rain for the next 48 hours the games will go on at the Banks DIH Thirst Park Ground.

In the semi-finals four teams will be battling for a spot in the finals. In the first half of the game GNSC will take on John Fernandes and then Guyana Revenue Authority will come up against J&S Electrical.

The two winning teams will qualify for the finals, while the runner-ups will tackle each other for a third place spot in the play off.

There will also be an exhibition game between Rich Boys and Sweet Point Ballerz.

It was also noted that a major aim  of the tournament is to promote fitness awareness in the workplace and in the everyday lives of workers.
