Tropical storm ruins final day of second round

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Heavy rain here yesterday resulted in the abandonment of the final day of the second round of matches in the Regional Under-19 three-day Championship.

Not a ball was possible in any of the three games as bad weather, stemming from the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto, engulfed the island and put the venues under water.

The cyclone, which passed just north of the island in the wee hours of Friday morning, also brought high winds. Guyana were playing Jamaica at Foursquare, hosts Barbados were taking on Leeward Islands at Bayfield while Trinidad and Tobago and Windward Islands were engaged at Pine Basin.

At Foursquare, Guyana were 73 for three with an overall lead of 70 runs while at Bayfield, the Leewards were 59 for three, requiring a further 65 to make Barbados bat again.

At Pine Basin, the stage was set for an interesting last day as Windwards were due to resume from 100 for eight – an overall lead of 161 runs.

In the third round of matches which begins tomorrow, Trinidad & Tobago meet Guyana at Pine Basin, Windwards oppose Leeward Islands at Desmond Haynes Oval and Barbados entertain Jamaica at Weymouth.
