The accident occurred around 6:10pm, as Benjamin was on his way back home from a nearby wedding house, where he had gone to deliver a message to his father. The driver, a witness said, tried to apply brakes but was unable to do so and hit the boy, who eventually landed on the windscreen of the pick-up. A woman, with assistance from the driver, put the boy into a car and rushed him to the Skeldon Public Hospital.

Benjamin’s cousin, Tasha, indicated to Stabroek News that persons did not hear when the accident occurred because of the loud music being played from the nearby wedding house. According to her, the bicycle wheels and frame were badly bent after the accident.
