Three students injured following fire scare at President’s College

Three female President’s College (PC) students were  injured early yesterday morning from jumping through a window after catching sight of flames coming from the boys’ dormitory.

Reports reaching this newspaper are that a male student set his mattress on fire, but it was quickly extinguished by a house parent, before it could get out of control.

According to a source who works at the institution, after the fire started, there were shouts of “fire” throughout the dorms. At this, the three students in question caught sight of the fire from the second story of the female dorms, and this, coupled with the shouts caused them to panic and jump through the dorm window.

This newspaper understands that one of the three girls, who are in Grade Seven, suffered injuries to her back from the fall. A notice was subsequently sent out to parents and guardians of students at the school informing them of an incident.

In the notice, the nature of the incident was not recorded, but parents and guardians were informed that it was being investigated by authorities.

“Dear Parents and Guardians. This morning we had an incident at PC which is being investigated by authorities. All children are being supported as is necessary. However, if you were not contacted your child was not openly affected. At this point, we have been advised not to say much more while investigations are ongoing. We also wish not to interrupt the teaching and learning process unless it is absolutely necessary. As soon as we have further information we shall let you know,” the notice said.
