Persaud wins Buxton anniversary celebrations road race

In-form Robin Persaud won yet another cycle road race when he romped home ahead of the pack in one hour, two minutes and 24 seconds in yesterday’s cycle road race oragnised by the “Buxtonians for Life” group.

The race, held in commemoration of the 172nd anniversary of the establishment of the village of Buxton, saw Persaud triumphing ahead of  Alonzo Greaves and Raul Leal who were second and third respectively.

Orville Hinds, Raynauth Jeffrey and Enzo Matthews occupied the next three places.

The top six finishers received trophies and cash incentives.

Of the five prime prizes at stake Persaud and Hinds won two each and Junior Niles, one.

The “Buxtonians for Life” group is a group that develops and promotes programmes in relation to the community of Buxton.  Activities for the 172nd anniversary commenced July 30 and ended with yesterday’s road race.

A planned Fun Day also scheduled for yesterday was postponed due to soggy condition of the ground.

The Mountain Bike category was won by Cleveland King from Adrian Sharma, Alfie Sonaram, Ander Petty and Joshua Dunn in that order.

The Mountain Bike winners received medals and cash tokes while Albert Philander received a special prize for being the most outstanding Buxton/Friendship participant.
