Not ‘high speed’

Dear Editor,

What a shame, GT&T. In New York, I am experiencing burstable speeds of over 1.2MB per second with a 20MB cable connection. GT&T’s so-called “high speed DSL Broadband” connection is nothing really to talk about in the world of internet speeds and browsing. It is unacceptable what this company continues to do to Guyanese internet subscribers who pay their hard- earned dollars for a connection they do not get.

This is just totally wrong, and Guyanese will not become aware of what they can experience out of the internet or how speedy and fast and enjoyable the internet can be until they come face-to-face with real lightning speed connections like the one I am enjoying in New York City.  GT&T needs to get its act together and start improving its DSL service. More companies need to come into Guyana and offer cable internet, and offer Guyanese customers and businesses an alternative to the pathetic service available through GT&T.

But competition does not gel well with GT&T. They have been persistent in blocking the other cell phone provider as of recent weeks. This company seems quite satisfied with their level of performance, but Guyanese should continue to speak out and demand better internet services and faster burstable speeds at cheaper prices.

Until we have those kinds of services on par with the rest of the world, we should never, ever speak about high speed internet access and lightning speed internet access, simply because we do not have it, we never did, and if GT&T continues to have its way, we probably never will.

Yours faithfully,
Leon Suseran
