Teen fish vendor charged with aggravated robbery

A 17-year-old fish vendor was placed on $60,000 bail  yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton for allegedly robbing a man of a BlackBerry phone and a gold chain.

Franklin Wilson of 82 South Sophia was not required to plead to the August 17 indictable charge of robbery with aggravation which alleged that he, being together with another, robbed Dawnel Monplaisir of one BlackBerry phone valued $80,000 and one gold chain valued $85,000, totaling $165,000 in value.

No facts of what occurred on the day in question were related to the court.

Counsel for the accused, Mortimer Codette, requested minimal bail for his client on the grounds that he “did not know about anything. He just happened to be in the vicinity at the time.” The prosecution had no objection to bail but requested that it should be substantial.

After hearing the case, the magistrate granted Wilson bail in the sum of $60,000.

His next  appearance will be on October 3 in Court One of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for report and fixture.
