Vendor charged with Stabroek Market armed robbery

A vendor was granted bail after he denied that he robbed a woman of her gold chain while she was shopping at Stabroek Market.

Akeem Hatton, 25, was on Tuesday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Courts where he was read the charge which alleges that on January 29, 2021, at Brickdam Access Road, while in the company of another and while armed with a gun, he robbed Maureen Ault of a gold chain valued $260,000.

He was granted $100,000 bail after he denied the charge. The matter was adjourned until February 24.

The police prosecutor told the court that on the day in question, the woman was in the company of another at the market, when the man walked up to her, held a gun to her head, and told her to remove the gold chain.

The prosecutor said that the man was arrested after the woman made a report at the police station and he was later identified by her to the police, during an ID parade.
