Arch-rivals Albion, RHT Bakewell clash today

After a lengthy break due to the inclement weather, the Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB) 2012 cricket season restarts today when arch rivals Albion Community Centre and Rose Hall Town Bakewell clash in the final of the Leslie Amsterdam Memorial/Memorex Under 17 competition.

The match, to be contested over two days at Area ‘H’ Ground, is expected to produce a high standard of play as both teams include several Berbice and Guyana players.

Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai

Albion is expected to be led by national Under 19 Player Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, fresh from his exploits in the just concluded West Indies Cricket Board’s U-19 competition and he should be supported by a strong batting lineup that includes Balchan Baldeo, Sharasz Ramcharran, David Latchaya, Tyrone Poornauth, Navendra Permaul and wicketkeeper Shivnarine Srikissoon.

Motie-Kanhai will, as expected, spearhead the bowling attack with support from off spinners Ramcharran, Latchaya and Latchman Bishram. Medium pacer Azad Khan along with leg spinners Brian Dookna and Veeren Ramoo will lend support.

Rose Hall Town Bakewell’s team will be led by national Under 17 all rounder Shailendra Shameer who will spearhead the batting as well with support from Nicholas Cameron, Devin Baldeo and V. Gooniah, Brandon Prashad, Daniel Lewis and Arif Chan. Medium pacer A. Paul will lead a bowling attack that includes off spinner Shameer, Chan, Lewis, Plaffina Millington and leg spinners Prashad, Calvin Jeffrey and Gooniah.

The match starts daily at 10:00 am. The winning team will receive $40,000.00 and the runners-up $25,000.00.

The man of the match in today’s final will receive $10,000.00.

The umpires for the final are Zaheer and Imran Moakan along with Augustus Outar.
