Operators of long-established shops should not be subject to the new requirements for shop licences

Dear Editor,

A directive is being issued to person desirous of renewing their shop licence.  In that document one of the requirements is an approved letter and a plan stamped approved by the Central Housing and Planning Authority.  It is understood that for a new licence the above is definitely a requirement.  However, it is totally unfair and an injustice to persons who have been issued with shop licences as long as fifty years ago and who have been renewing their licences over the years.

People who are affected are very dissatisfied with this requirement and are blaming the administration who they have been supporting for this injustice and undue hardship. Further, many of them have indicated that the court may have to decide this matter.

The best course of action is to withdraw this requirement for existing shops for which licences have been issued and apply the requirement only to new shops.

Yours faithfully,
