Wife tossed other woman’s glasses, court hears

– after catching husband rubbing her face

Tracy Garnett, who allegedly threw a woman’s glasses in a trench after she caught her husband with her, was yesterday arraigned on a simple larceny charge.

Garnett, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, at the Georgetown Magistrates Court, is alleged to have lost Michelle Dover’s spectacles, which were valued at $12,000.

She was not required to plead to the indictable charge, stemming from the September 12 incident in Georgetown.

It is alleged that about 3.30 pm, at the Route 44 minibus park, Garnett saw her husband rubbing Dover’s face and became annoyed. She is alleged to have subsequently walked up to her husband and inquired Dover’s identity, before pulling off the woman’s spectacles, throwing it in the trench and running away.

Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that Dover then made a report at the nearby police outpost and Garnett was subsequently arrested and charged.

The prosecution had no objections to bail, and the magistrate released Garnett on her own recognisance. However, she placed her on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.

The case will be called at Court Six on October 1.
