CIOG condemns Benghazi attack, film

The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) strongly condemns the brutal attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya during a protest against a film which reportedly denigrates the Prophet Mohammed.

US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and 3 other US citizens were killed in the attack.

According to a CIOG press release, the CIOG also strongly condemns the production of provocative material, especially to the Muslim community and calls for “a full rejection of such acts, which will only invoke religious hatred and division”.

CIOG said while it respects and supports the rights of every person, “sensitive issues should be handled with extreme caution, since responding with violence will ultimately lead to destruction and more innocent lives being lost”.

The organization extended sincere condolences to Stevens’ family, friends, colleagues and the American nation.
