Hero mom recovering from gunshot wounds

Hero mother Bibi Samaroo, who survived two gunshots wounds as she tried to fight off an armed bandit who invaded her Section ‘A’ Diamond Housing Scheme residence on Tuesday night, is recovering well at a private hospital, her husband, Amar Samaroo, said yesterday.

Samaroo is nursing wounds to her chest and in her pelvic area, which damaged her liver, stomach and lungs. Both bullets have been removed.

She was attacked by an armed bandit as she was about to close the patio door to her home after hearing noises in her yard. Her two sons were at home with her at the time, while her husband was out.

She had been discharged from hospital only a month ago after undergoing surgery and was on bed rest at the time of the attack.

Her husband had told this newspaper that his wife told him she began to fight with the bandit because she was scared he would harm her two children.

After being shot, Samaroo was robbed of a handbag, containing $25,000. She did, however, manage to pull off the bandanna the man was wearing to cover his face as he attacked her. Three bicycles along with the bandana were found at her home, which the family said suggests that Samaroo’s attacker had accomplices waiting in the yard.
