All weather surface to replace Clive Lloyd stand at Bourda

By December, the area once occupied by the Clive Lloyd Stand at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda will be replaced by an all-weather surface.

This is according to Ramsey Ali, vice president of GCC, who said the all weather surface will be constructed at a cost of US$15,000 by Dyrock Constructions.

Ali said US$5000 was given to the club by the West Indies Cricket Board through a grant offered to clubs to assist with cricket development.

However, Ali said while the facility will be constructed for cricket development other disciplines such as hockey and lawn tennis will be able to use it.

Ali said there was need for such a facility as cricketers are unable to use the ground whenever there is heavy rainfall.

Ali said work started on the site approximately one month ago and the area is currently being filled with sand.

The GCC board made the decision to tear down the Clive Lloyd stand which had become unsafe because of the lack of repairs. Paul Chan-a-Sue then President of the Club stated that the club could not have afforded to repair the stand and as such a decision was taken to tear it down. The stand was torn down more than two years ago.

Chan-a-Sue said GCC suffered when the new stadium at Providence was built as the famous Bourda Cricket Ground was no longer the ground of choice for international cricket matches. This resulted in the loss of revenue for the club, which has depended heavily on international matches as its main source of revenue.
