Moore, Pena bout off

– card still to be staged as planned

The much anticipated main bout between Guyana’s Leon `Hurry Up’ Moore and Undefeated American boxer Juan Carlos Pena is off.

Moore and Pena were billed to fight in the main bout of Saturday night’s `Foreign Invasion’ card at Thirst Park but a press release from the promoter, Moore himself, yesterday informed that Pena will no longer be coming.

“Leon Moore regrets to advise that the US Team scheduled to arrive in Guyana on Thursday 11th October 2012, originally comprising of Juan Carlos Pena, Alan Phelan and Frank Galarza will no longer be coming to Guyana,” stated the release.

According to the release Moore was forced to opt out of the fight because of pressing managerial and promotional duties.

“Leon Moore’s promotional and managerial activities have weighed heavily on him and severely hindered his training eventually forcing him to opt out of the fight, rather than face as dangerous an opponent as Pena without being at his very best.

“The Leon Moore versus Carlos Pena fight threatened always to be a very difficult one for Moore as Pena boasts a record of 19 wins and no losses, 14 of those wins having come by way of knock out,” the release added.

Moore said he is still hoping to take on Pena at a later date.

The release said Saturday night’s card will still go on as scheduled with Howard `Battersea Bomber’ Eastman against Simeon Hardy as the main event.

The other bouts will see Edmond Declou against Jermain King; Orlon Rogers taking on Clive Atwell, Mitchell Rogers battling with Anthony Augustin and Charlton Skeete opposing Richard Williamson.
