Plantation Hope accident victim still in hospital

Richard Singh, the 20-year-old man who was involved in an accident at Plantation Hope, East Coast Demerara on Monday, remains a patient of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Hospital, his uncle, Imran Khan, said yesterday.

Singh sustained head injuries in the accident that claimed the life of his eighteen-year-old cousin, Padma Narine. Narine’s four siblings and her parents also sustained injuries while the driver and his family escaped unhurt.

The driver of the bus, who is a neigbour of the family, was speeding and was told by the girl’s father, Rajendra Narine, to slow down before the accident.
The driver however refused to slow down and lost control of the vehicle which hit a rail and ran into a nearby trench. Padma was pulled from the vehicle dead.
