Hope accident survivor remains in intensive care

Almost two weeks have passed and Richard Singh, 24, remains hospitalised in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Hospital after the Plantation Hope, East Coast Demerara minibus accident that claimed the life of his cousin.

Singh, who sustained head injuries in the accident that claimed the life of 18-year-old Padma Narine, is still to show signs of improvement as his condition remains the same, his relatives told Stabroek News yesterday.

Narine’s four siblings and her parents also sustained injuries in the accident, while the driver and his family escaped unhurt.

The driver of the bus, who is a neighbour of the family, was speeding and was told by Narine’s father, Rajendra Narine, to slow down before the accident.

The driver, however, refused and subsequently lost control of the vehicle, which hit a rail and ran into a nearby trench. Padma Narine was pulled from the vehicle dead.
