Man accused of ‘hero mom’ robbery, shooting granted bail

A 23-year-old man was placed on $400,000 bail when he appeared before Magis-trate Leslie Sobers, at the Providence Magistrate Court on Thursday to answer charges of robbery under arms and attempted murder.

Quacy Lord pleaded not guilty to both charges. Lord is accused of robbing Bibi Samaroo of Section ‘A’, Block X Diamond, of one handbag on September 17 at her home, shooting her in the process.

Samaroo was at her home with her two children when she was confronted by an armed man, who was trying to enter. She fought to keep the man out, for fear that he might have harmed her children. During the struggle, the man shot her twice and later fled.

Samaroo managed to call her husband who was out at the time and was rushed to a private hospital. One of bullets was removed from her pelvis, while the other is still lodged in her left breast.

Lord was placed on $400,000 bail and will have to report to the Diamond Police Station every Friday at 9 am. He is scheduled to return to court on November 17 when the matter will continue.
