City worker accused of assaulting teen girlfriend’s father

A Mayor & City Council employee was released on self bail after he denied a charge of unlawful assault yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.’

Marlon Marques, 20, of Lot 3A Laing Avenue, pleaded not guilty when the unlawful assault charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Court 1.

Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman said that on November 22, Marques chased his 17-year old girlfriend’s father, Anthony Clark, with a cutlass and dealt him several lashes about his body after a heated argument.

“I ain’t chop he with no cutlass,” Marques, however, said. “I deh with he daughter, right? I come in he yard and he start running me with a steel pipe and I start running and I pick up a small object and ah pelt he with it and it hit he,” he added.

Marques was subsequently placed on a bond to keep to the peace, while the case was transferred to Court 10, where it will be called on December 10.
