Couple on assault charges put on bond to keep peace

A man and his common-law wife, who allegedly assaulted each other over a misunderstanding over food, were yesterday placed on a bond to keep the peace for a year.

It was alleged that on November 18, Mark Anthony and Ronda Hubert unlawfully assaulted each other at their Georgetown home.

Both Anthony and Hubert initially pleaded guilty when theyappeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

When given the opportunity to speak, Anthony explained that their, son who reported the matter, told the police what he thought had happened. However, he claimed that that wasn’t the case. “We had a misunderstanding and then I pushed her and she slipped on the mat, bussing her mouth,” he said.

After both Anthony and Hubert challenged accounts of what occurred, not guilty pleas were subsequently entered on their behalf and they both said they would offer no evidence against each other.

The magistrate then ordered them to seek counselling at Help and Shelter and placed them on a bond to keep the peace for a year.
