Goldsmith accused of converting necklace

Middle Road, La Penitence goldsmith Zahir Salaru was yesterday charged with fraudulently converting a gold and diamond necklace entrusted to him to his own use.

Salaru, 40, of Lot 79 Middle Road, La Penitence was released on $150,000 bail after he denied the charge before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

It is alleged that between September 2 and October 3, in Georgetown, Salaru, who was entrusted with the $200,000 gold necklace with a diamond pendant, fraudulently converted the article to his own use.

It was the property of Enid Stoll.
No further details were given to the court.
The magistrate granted bail as there were no objections from the prosecution and the case was adjourned until January 18, 2013, for reports and fixtures.
