Goldsmith remanded for allegedly converting gold to his own use

Navindra Samaroo of 28 First Street, Alexander Village, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to converting to his own use twelve and a half pennyweights of gold, valued $56,250, being solely entrusted to him by Vishnu Ramjahore between December 4 and 8, 2009.

Samaroo told the court that he had repaid the virtual complainant. The VC’s wife, Geeta Beharry, who spoke on his behalf, told the court that they had indeed been repaid. She said that Samaroo was supposed to make two wedding rings with the gold.

The job was to have been completed by December 7 but it was not. When they inquired why they were told by Samaroo that he had sold the gold.

Prosecutor in the matter, Inspector Stephen Telford, objected to bail. Samaroo is to return to court on Friday.
