No bail for accused in King St robbery

A man was last Friday denied bail on a charge that he and another robbed two men.

At Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Ricky Andrews, 18, of 152 Laing Avenue, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman told the court that on December 8, at King Street, Andrews with an accomplice approached Travis Isaacs and Elijah Wharton and robbed them of two cellular phones, and an Mp3 player, valued $54,000 in total, as well as $56,000 cash. No further details were provided to the court.

Blackman objected to bail, saying that Andrews was before the court on similar charges and he asserted that he would likely commit the offence again.

Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry subsequently refused bail.
The matter will continue on January 25 in Court 1.
