Two on bail over robbery of elderly man

Two men were yesterday accused of robbing an elderly man of his cell phone and cash.

Miner Ricky Andrews, 18, of Lot 152 Laing Avenue, and construction worker Colin David, 20 of Lot 48 ‘B’ Field Sophia, were yesterday released on $125,000 bail each, after they appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on October 2, in Georgetown, they robbed Vickram Persaud, 80, of his cellular phone, $6000 in cash and an artificial chain, which valued $11,500 in all.

Persaud was making his way on Longden Street, when Andrews and David started to assault him causing him bodily harm and then made good their escape to which they were caught and taken into police custody and further charge.

The prosecution had no objections to bail and the magistrate subsequently adjourned the case to October 15 for Court One.
